About Me

I am a freelance photojournalist based in Denver, Colorado. My work ranges from breaking news, to long-form storytelling to D.C. politics (and I enjoy them all).

In 2021, I began working on “The U.S. Air Force Wants a Diverse Officer Corps. It’s Not Working” where I followed two cadets throughout their first year at the Air Force Academy. I was able to provide rare access into the highly guarded military institution which resulted in the most sustained visual news coverage ever seen of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

About Kevin Mohatt

In 2025, just days after President Trump’s inauguration and after word got out that ICE was coming to Aurora, Colorado, I spent several nights in the homes of Venezuelan families. Family is important to me and I wanted to show how ICE was going after children and not just criminals, as the Trump administration asserted at the time. That work, “Inside Trump’s Immigration Crackdown as Net Widens,” contributed to the 2026 Pulitzer finalist team for Breaking News Photography.

I also contributed to the 2025 Pulitzer prize winning Reuters team for investigative reporting for coverage of the fentanyl trade.

Currently, I am working on an in-depth project about our criminal justice system (contact me to find out more) which I started during the Anderson Ranch photography workshop. I have also attended Eddie Adams, where I received the Reuters award, Missouri Photo Workshop and The Kalish.

I am a member of Diversify Photo, the National Press Photographers Association and NABJ.
