I am a Denver-based freelance photojournalist and was a part of the 2025 Pulitzer prize winning Reuters team for investigative reporting.
I enjoy covering local and national news stories for a wide range of outlets including Reuters, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. My pictures have been selected by editors as top picks at The Guardian, NBC, CNN and Reuters and have appeared in publications throughout the world including Rappler, TIME, Al Jazeera, The Washington Post and NPR.
I am a member of Diversify Photo, the National Press Photographers Association and NABJ. I attended Eddie Adams XXXII, where I received the Reuters award, and Missouri Photo Workshop.74. I am currently participating in the Anderson Ranch photography workshop, a 3-year program where I am focused on an in-depth project about our criminal justice system.
In addition to editorial photography, I also take on commissioned commercial work from brands such as Apple, Chipotle, The Nature Conservancy and many others.
In 1965, when my grandmother joined the marches from Selma to Montgomery, her story, and the experiences of countless others were largely told through the eyes of journalists who had little understanding of the struggles she and her peers faced. The news presented a story of submission, chaos and loss.
However, what others saw in the marches was something entirely different. Those protests brought together people who embodied resilience, determination and courage. Had journalists who understood the activists’ backgrounds been given the opportunity to cover the Civil Rights Movement for major publications, Americans would’ve most likely seen stories of bravery and of strength told in ways that would’ve humanized the people of the movement rather than visuals that made them look like weakened criminals.
Though much progress has been made since the ’60’s, without a range of perspectives in our newsrooms, we will never get the complete story.
I believe we need more perspectives in our newsrooms in order to provide different viewpoints and well-rounded coverage. I became a journalist because I want to help tell the whole story.
